About the Greenwich, Connecticut Area

Greenwich fuses upscale culture with rural beauty. Celebrities, Hedge Fund Operators and New York City commuters choose to live here for the appealing atmosphere that blends renowned dining and high-end shopping destinations with beaches, woodlands, and meadows. The area's agrarian past contrasts sharply with today's opulent wealth, visible in the plush estates and the yacht-filled harbor. But with charming neighborhoods and police officers directing traffic around the clock, Greenwich maintains a small-town feel. Be sure to check out Greenwich Avenue, a ritzy shopping and dining district, and Old Greenwich and Belle Haven, two neighborhoods dotted with Victorian and Colonial homes. The downtown area offers the Bruce Museum, but the picturesque New England neighborhoods draw more visitors with fantastic shopping and dining. New York City is only thirty minutes away, but for many visitors, its big-city bustle can't compete with Greenwich's unique combination of wealth, history, art, and family life.

Greenwich, CT

Greenwich is the southernmost and westernmost municipality in Connecticut and is 37 minutes by train (express) from Grand Central Terminal in Manhattan. In July 2005, CNN/Money and Money magazine ranked Greenwich 12th on its list of the 100 Best Places to Live in the United States.

The town is named after Greenwich, a suburb of London in the United Kingdom. Vienne, Isère, France, is a sister city of Greenwich.

Greenwich is unofficially divided into several sections, or neighborhoods, among them:
Belle Haven, Byram, Chickahominy, Cos Cob, Glenville, Downtown Greenwich, Mianus, Millbrook, Old Greenwich, also known as Sound Beach, Riverside, Round Hill, Back Country, North Street (refers to the neighborhood surrounding North Street)

Cos Cob, Greenwich, Old Greenwich and Riverside each have their own ZIP Codes and Metro North stations.

Darien, CT

Darien is a town in Fairfield County, Connecticut, United States. A relatively small community on Connecticut's "Gold Coast," it is one of the most affluent towns in the United States.

Situated between the small cities of Norwalk and Stamford, the town is a bedroom community with relatively few office buildings. Most workers commute to the adjacent cities, and many also work in New York City. Two Metro North railroad stations — Noroton Heights and Darien — link the town to Grand Central Terminal and the rest of the New Haven Line. Although Darien has an increasingly vibrant downtown, residents often shop at the neighboring larger towns. For recreation, the town includes four small parks, two beaches on Long Island Sound, four country clubs, a hunt club, and two yacht clubs.
With a median home price of approximately $1 million, Darien is one of the most expensive places to live in North America, and was rated one of the best places to live in America by CNN in 2005.

New Canaan, CT

The town is one of the most affluent communities in the United States. CNN Money ranked New Canaan first in the nation with the highest median family income.

New Canaan has two Metro-North railroad stations: the New Canaan station and the Talmadge Hill station, both on the New Canaan Branch of the New Haven Line. Travel time to Grand Central Terminal is approximately one hour.

The downtown area consists of many restaurants, an old movie theater, and antique shops. There are also several churches in town, as well as the historic Roger Sherman Inn. The town is bounded on the north by Lewisboro and Pound Ridge in Westchester County, New York, on the east by Wilton, on the southeast by Norwalk, on the south by Darien and on the southwest and west by Stamford.

Fairfield County, CT

It's 30 miles of beautiful coastline. It's a stone's throw from New York City. It's rolling hills and picturesque New England countryside. It's all that and more. It's Fairfield County - a place where the shore, country and city come together to create a unique getaway destination to discover.

Stereotyped as a bedroom community of New York City, home to the wealthiest of the upper class, and a haven for the preppy lifestyle, Fairfield County is the fifth richest county in America, best known for its "Gold Coast", one of the richest areas of the nation if not the world; the nine towns that comprise the "Gold Coast" have a median household income of $155,655, almost four times higher than the American national average. Rowayton, a village in the urban city of Norwalk, has the highest per capita income in the county, and the state as well. The average household income is more than $255,000. The New York Post has dubbed the southwestern "Connecti-Cash" panhandle the "epicenter of American wealth." With their close proximity to New York City, these communities, most notably Greenwich, are what make Connecticut famous for its wealth and prestige. Almost every county in Connecticut places in the highest income counties in the USA.

Westchester County ranks number two (number one being Manhattan) for wealthiest counties in New York State and seventh wealthiest county nationally. Westchester County has long been associated with Old Money and some of the country's wealthiest families for generations, along with other places such as Greenwich, Connecticut and the Long Island's Gold Coast.
